September 3, 2021TANGERANG – UMN Architecture Lecturer, Rizki Tridamayanti Siregar and UMN Architecture Alumni 2016, Scientia Sacra won in the “Hang Nadim Batam Airport Roundabout Park Design Competition” which was announced on Monday (08/30/21). Out of a total of 32 participants, they managed to win the first place by lifting the design titled “Layar Terkembang”. The competition encourages participants to create environmentally friendly designs and represent the sociological values of Batam society.
“The location of the park that is held is exactly at the entrance of Hang Nadim Airport. This park will be the first and last seen if visiting the city of Batam. Therefore, BP Batam as an organizer wants to build something iconic, which truly represents the city of Batam,” Rizki said via electronic message, Wednesday (01/09/21).
Rizki said the design of the “Developed Screen” was inspired by the shape of the sailing ship. According to him, the shape of this sailing ship can represent the sea culture of the ancestors of batam residents. In addition, the pillars in the design of this “Developed Screen” also carry an environmentally friendly concept.
“With high elasticity and strength, the pillars will swing if blown by the wind. This wind energy will be converted into electrical energy with a piezoelectric system and used to turn on LED lights in the garden,” rizki explained.
In addition, Rizki also explained the philosophical value contained through the pillars. He said the collection of pillars in the design of “Layar Terkembang” symbolizes the diversity of the community in Batam. This diversity consists of different backgrounds, tribes, religions, races, and customs, but remains one solid. In addition, the shape of the pillars that tower upwards also represents the spirit of the people of Batam who are unyielding to build their city. Rizki expressed this as a saying that read, “Once the screen is developed, abstinence recedes backwards.”

In the future, Rizki said that the winner will be involved in the development of the design for the implementation of this project organized by the Strategic Program Planning Center of the Free Trade Agency (BP) of the Free Trade Area and Batam Free Port. He also hopes that this “developed screen” can become a symbol in Batam.
“A symbol that combines the wisdom of the ancestors in utilizing nature as a source of knowledge, as well as livelihood. An icon of the future landmarks of Batam city that is dynamic, responsive, sustainable, and innovative. However, it is still rooted in the local culture,” she continued.
