September 28, 2021TANGERANG – The Founders of Kompas Gramedia, Jakob Oetama and P.K. Ojong are known as people who have a high idealism regarding human values. To recall his figure and thoughts, Corporate Communication Kompas Gramedia held a webinar titled “Pioneer Trail of KG: Legacy of Wisdom jakob Oetama and P.K. Ojong” on Monday (09/27/21). Previously, the activities attended by all employees of Kompas Gramedia were also accompaniments for the inauguration of the statue of the Gramedia Compass Pioneers on the same day.
The webinar hosted by Kompas TV News Anchor Cindy Sistyarini invited three main speakers, including the Rector of Multimedia Nusantara University, Ninok Leksono; Editor-in-Chief of Kompas Daily, Sutta Dharmasaputra; Editor of Kompas 1965-1967 and Vice President Director of Kompas Gramedia 1992-2004, Indra Gunawan. On this occasion, the three sources who have an affinity with the Founder of Kompas Gramedia reflect back the legacy of wisdom Jakob Oetama and P.K. Ojong.
One of the sources, Rector of Multimedia Nusantara University, Ninok Leksono revealed that there is a transcendental humanism value inherent in the thinking of kompas Gramedia Founder. Ninok defines this transcendental humanism as a humanity of faith. This is also implemented in the internal Kompas Gramedia by upholding tolerance in the midst of the diversity of each individual’s background.
“Do not just worship, but forget about human affairs. But, also vice versa, do not take care of humans until they forget to worship with God,” Ninok said.

On the other hand, there is Sutta Dharmasaputra as editor-in-chief of Kompas Daily who also has the opportunity to reflect back on the legacy of the founder of Kompas Gramedia. That value is contained in the motto held firmly by Kompas Daily, namely “The Mandate of the People’s Conscience”. Sutta revealed this motto in accordance with the spirit of the Founder of Kompas Gramedia who wants to benefit the people of Indonesia.
“The highest law is the people, that’s where it’s used as a motto. Compass concerns the rights of the people. Build Indonesia by knitting its humanity. Those people are the people,” Sutta said.
In addition, Indra Gunawan as Editor of Kompas 1965-1967 and Vice President Director of Kompas Gramedia 1992-2004 revealed Jakob Oetama and P.K. Ojong have a unique mindset. He called the Gramedia Compass Pioneer able to hold something paradoxical or contradictory into one. Of course, Indra reveals this unity can produce something extraordinary. In addition, Indra also called this mindset very relevant to be applied in this day and age.
“It is in this age of uncertainty. If we are able to realize and unite the two opposites, it is the key to progress and survival,” indra said.
