November 10, 2021TANGERANG – The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many businesses globally. Due to the intense scale of the crisis, many businesses have had to face the difficult challenge of maintaining their business during this pandemic. Fortunately, thanks to the vaccinations and strict health and safety regulations, some parts of the world are starting to recover from a health and economic perspective.
In responding the situation, once again, Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), Pelita Harapan University (UPH), and Swiss-German University (SGU) held the 3rd International Conference on Global Innovation and Trend in Economics (InCoGITE) 2021. Themed “Global Business Recovery: Life after COVID-19,” this virtual conference will be held on November 4, 2021.
InCoGITE 2021 accommodates various scientific disciplines ranging from Finance, Accounting, Investment, Marketing, Tourism, IT & Operations and Communication in Business to Strategic Management and Human Resources that synergize in innovation and the economy.
“Despite the crisis, we by nature develop by adapting to situations. We develop not only as individuals but also as business organizations and entrepreneurs. As academics, we continue to learn and enrich our knowledge by adapting to the situation around us,” said Dr. Ringkar Situmorang in his opening speech.
This virtual conference invited 5 keynote speakers: Dr. Sandiaga Uno, Dr. Arnold Japutra, Prof. Rofikoh Rohim, Prof. Roy Sembel, and Dr. Nathan Zhang. Other academics who have submitted their papers are also given the opportunity to present their studies and discuss the conference theme with fellow academics.
The conference discussed various business sectors, ranging from the hotel industry, tourism, and banking to the capital market. Although each sector faces different challenges, all keynote speakers emphasized the importance of taking opportunities and not complaining about the challenges they are facing.
“Why are the rich rich? It is because they focus on opportunities. They explore, seek, create, and take advantage of existing opportunities,” said Prof. Sembel.

Dr. Uno also emphasized innovation, adaptation, and collaboration as strategic directions in developing tourism and the creative economy and in responding the dynamics of the surrounding environment that changes so rapidly in its complexity.
Tourism and the creative economy are important because they are expected to be a driving force for the rise of national economic growth by creating new and quality jobs. During this pandemic, tourism and the creative economy can be presented as the right solution for the revival of the Indonesian economy.
Another keynote speaker, Dr. Japutra mentioned the benefits of digitization. He explained that digitalization will help businesses adapt to the crisis. Moreover, regardless of their sizes, the business will performs better if they invest in digital innovation.
“It is because if you invest more in digital tools, you will have higher digital readiness. You can perform 24% better than those who are not digitally ready,” said Dr. Japutra.
The discussions in this conference will hopefully be an opportunity for us to prepare ourselves for the post-COVID-19 pandemic in the near future.
