TANGERANG – Did you know the “ruler” of the population in Indonesia? Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Gen Z is the generation that dominates the population in Indonesia. This generation, who likes the digital world, is predicted to be a source of money for various digital-based services. One of them is subscription platforms.
UMN Library also collaborated with UMN Consulting to discuss the topic of subscriptions that are Gen Z-friendly titled “Subscription101: Understanding The Model & How It Can Optimize Your Business” at the UMN Lecture Hall, Thursday (29/9).
Subscription is a type of business where consumers pay something to get certain services in a predetermined period. Head of Content Development UMN Consulting, Istman Musaharun Pramadiba, as the resource person in this discussion, also gave tips on creating a pro-youth subscription business model.
“Gen Z wants varied content and no ads. [Besides that], Gen Z also wants personalized content,” explained Istman, who is also a 2007 UMN student alumnus.

Therefore, Istman said it is essential to identify the target audience first. The goal is that the content provided is in accordance with the audience’s needs.
According to him, understanding your target audience is essential to creating a subscription pricing model that fits young people’s budgets. Moreover, Istman said that Gen Z prefers pocket-friendly subscription service providers, aka cheap. These findings are based on UMN Consulting’s research on 1,177 Gen Zs in Indonesia.
“The point is, make the price affordable. That’s what keeps people subscribing,” said Istman.
In essence, Istman emphasized that the key to this subscription business model is customer loyalty (user retention). Therefore, creating a strategy that can maintain customer loyalty is crucial. Watch the full explanation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z8EVIQZWU4
