September 19, 2022Tangerang – The New Student Orientation of Multimedia Nusantara University (Orientasi Mahasiswa Baru/OMB) (OMB UMN) 2022 provided participants with key values. These values consist of struggle, growth, resilience, 5C Kompas Gramedia (Caring, Credible, Competent, Competitive, Customer Delight), to the 4th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely quality education. After two years of UMN OMB being conducted online, this year’s provisions were packaged in a series of interactive offline and online activities on Tuesday (16/8/2022). This activity is also a form of support for Indonesia to recover faster and get up stronger.
“The activity that you are currently participating inthe New Student Orientation, not a Study Orientation and Campus Introduction (Orientasi Studi dan Pengenalan Kampus/Ospek) or hazing (perpeloncoan). There are three goals: to introduce the campus environment, study programs, and Student Activity Units,” Ninok Leksono, Chancellor of UMN, said.
The activity opened with a group dynamic entitled “Udaya Tuwuh,” which in Sanskrit means growth efforts. Udaya Tuwuh is divided into three parts, each of which not only instills the values of OMB UMN 2022 but also introduces and expands participants’ knowledge about endemic flora in Indonesia.
The dynamics of the first group is “Anufa Flora,” which means knowledge of plants. Through this activity, participants are invited to compete to guess the name of the typical flower of the archipelago with one to two other groups. After getting points, Tiksna also explained the unique facts about the flora.

That way, participants can expand their knowledge while applying the value of growth and the value of being competent.
The following dynamic is “Panca Waradana,” which means five valuable values. In this dynamic, each group tested its cohesiveness by competing quickly to answer questions about the 5C value of Kompas Gramedia while simultaneously demonstrating the movement.
Finally, participants were encouraged to practice cohesiveness and develop self-toughness through the dynamics of “Abhinaya Sahitya,” which means the spirit of togetherness in Sanskrit. In addition, this dynamic also instills values such as struggle, creativity, competitiveness, and credibility.
Not only that, but Tiksna also invited the participants to make “Stem of Toughness.” In the manufacturing process, participants are free to create according to their respective self-images and write them on the ice cream sticks. This is also the initial manifestation of the commitment of each participant to starting the fight.
Later, the ice cream sticks are assembled into a single unit in the form of a hexagon to form a “Dream Nest.” Through this, OMB UMN 2022 wants to raise the understanding that just like bees, building dreams requires strong cooperation.
The UMN 2022 OMB offline activity continued with the Tiksna Lecture, where participants were provided with the UMN vision and mission, the 5C value of Kompas Gramedia, 5S (Senyum, Salam, Sapa, Sopan, dan Santun) (Smile, Salute, Greet, Courteous, and Polite), and the Tridharma of Higher Education. Afterward, participants returned to their respective homes and prepared to participate in the Zoom content.

In this session, participants were introduced to various campus institutions that can help their college life later. This session took advantage of the YouTube live streaming feature, which was broadcasted live from the green screen lab at UMN.
The series closed with the “Get to Know the Campus” content, which uses the concept of video first Point of View (POV). In addition to inviting participants to go around UMN virtually, participants were also explained about campus regulations. Participants were also allowed to ask questions and get to know the UMN campus more closely.
“We have honed all preparations, both online and offline, by holding various discussions, meetings, simulations, to rehearsals. Our adaptive attitude proved successful today through the smiles of the participants as they left UMN and the zoom meeting. When participants were asked about what they got on Day 1 Expansion, they could answer well,” Helen, coordinator of the OMB OMB 2022 Darana (Events) Division, concluded.
