October 17, 2016Jakarta World Forum for Media Development (JWFMD) 2016, an international event that presents media experts and practitioners was completed on Thursday. The Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), in collaboration with the Indonesian Press Council and Multimedia Nusantara University in its implementation, selected Ricardo Corredor from Colombia as the new chairman of GFMD.
“Today we declare that we are committed. We want to continue this work and take what we discussed over these three days to the next step,” Ricardo said.
The Chairman and all new stewardships were elected from all seven regional GFMDs (Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean Region, Eurasia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as Asia). In this closing session, they presented strategy instructions from GFMD for the next three years.
GFMD Executive Director Ayman Mhanna has stated that the event aims to build relationships between media organizations and practitioners to help media development in various countries. Ninok Leksono, Rector of Multimedia Nusantara University expressed his appreciation at the closing of the event. “Thank you for being with us. Hopefully this experience can be shared with your colleagues,” Ninok said.
There are several sessions that include best practices, learning, doing, and grand debates over the past three days, discussing media content issues, new media, and business models. “I believe this forum will benefit the media that we manage and the community,” said Ahmad Djauhar as vice chairman of the Indonesian Press Council who also expressed his welcome and appreciation for the implementation of this forum.
GFMD regularly hosts these events. This year’s event, which is the theme decoding the future: rethinking media for a new world, was its fourth international forum and was attended by 400 participants from 62 countries. The location and time for the next forum have not yet been announced. (*)
