Hello, fellow students. Often, during lectures, we find that it is not the lecturer who teaches the course but their assistant. A lecturer or practicum assistant is someone the lecturer trusts to replace them in teaching lecture or practicum material to students. Being an assistant lecturer or practicum is sometimes a dream for students because it is known to have many benefits.
Students active in organizations or college activities often look for additional activities outside of classroom lectures. Some join student organizations such as the Student Executive Board (BEM), Student Creativity Unit (Unit Kreativitas Mahasiswa/UKM), and other organizations. - Accompanying student research activities. Sometimes, students have research activities that need to be accompanied by lecturers. An assistant lecturer can assist students in research activities, starting from the preparation of proposals until the research ends. This will certainly also add experience for the assistant lecturer because they are involved in research activities.

How to Become an Assistant Lecturer
As we already know, an assistant lecturer is someone whom lecturers trust to help teach students. Assistant lecturers can come from young lecturers or the majority of students at the university whom the relevant lecturer selects. Many students want to become assistant lecturers. Here are some ways you can do to become an assistant lecturer:
- Be active in class. The first way to become an assistant lecturer is to be an active student in class during lectures. This form of being active in class can be done by paying attention to the lecturer when teaching in class, being creative and critical in thinking, and not being shy to ask questions if there is something you don’t understand about the lecture material.
- Having a good relationship with the lecturer. Establishing good relationships and communication with lecturers is another way to have a plus for the lecturer concerned. By being polite with the lecturer, of course, the lecturer will also see how the student is outgoing and can socialize so that it becomes a consideration to be chosen as an assistant lecturer.
- Being a good student. Lecturers, in choosing students to become their assistants, certainly see or have specific criteria related to the students to be selected. This may be something that makes some people curious about what benefits are obtained if you become an assistant lecturer or practicum. Here are some of the benefits of being an assistant lecturer or practicum:
- Learn time management. Students who become assistant lecturers certainly get other responsibilities besides being students. This makes students inevitably train themselves in terms of time management so that when carrying out the responsibilities, their role as a student is not left behind and vice versa.
- Obtaining additional income. In addition to getting benefits related to his role as a student, usually, the relevant lecturer also provides a certain amount of compensation, which can be utilized by students as additional income. However, this is not necessarily absolute or applies to everyone. Sometimes, it depends on the agreement between the lecturer and the teaching assistant.
