July 9, 2024Tangerang – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University, Indonesia on Friday, 28 June 2024. This MoU outlines various collaborative initiatives that will be undertaken between UMN and Monash University, Indonesia, including a master’s degree program for UMN alumni.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Professor Matthew Nicholson, the President and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Monash University, Indonesia, Tantia Dian Permata Indah, the COO and Vice-President (Operations and Enterprise), and Suryo Danuwinoto, Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications, along with their delegation.
Also present at the event were UMN Rector Dr. Ninok Leksono, M.A., accompanied by the university’s vice-rectors, as well as representatives from the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Communication Science, Faculty of Engineering and Informatics. This event was successfully organized by the UMN LPPM and Global Office departments.
“I am very pleased that UMN and Monash University, Indonesia can collaborate, as there will undoubtedly be many benefits and opportunities. In my opinion, this MoU is crucial and goes beyond just being a mere cooperation document,” stated Ninok.
Professor Matthew Nicholson expressed his delight with the signing of the MoU and briefly discussed Monash University’s journey, from its origins in Australia to its expansion across Asia and Europe.
“At Monash University we aim to address the global challenges of climate change, geopolitical security and thriving communities. Through our research, our staff, and our talented students we strive to make a meaningful contribution to Indonesia; collaborations such as our partnership with UMN provide us with a platform to achieve success,” explained Matthew.
Matthew hopes that this MoU will bring about positive and tangible outcomes, allowing UMN and Monash University, Indonesia to grow together, and fostering cooperation in education, teaching, research, and community service.
In line with this sentiment, Prof. Dr. Muliawati G. Siswanto, M.Eng.Sc, Vice Rector for Cooperation and Collaboration at UMN, stated, “We are very proud and pleased to have this partnership between Universitas Multimedia Nusantara and Monash University, Indonesia. This collaboration will provide significant benefits, especially in supporting academic development and research. With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, we will cultivate the Tri Dharma of Higher Education – Education, Research, and Community Service. The fast-track bachelor’s to master’s program at UMN and Monash University, Indonesia will enable students to expand their cultural and academic knowledge, thus broadening their global employment opportunities.”
Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at UMN, also discussed the programs offered by Monash University, which include providing and enabling UMN students to access Monash University’s master’s programs, as well as the opportunity for UMN faculty to obtain Ph.D. degrees.
“This is very intriguing to me, as UMN also has plans to expand its joint-degree collaborations, considering that UMN already has partnerships with Korea and Malaysia. I hope we can further expand these joint-degree initiatives to include Australia with Monash University,” expressed Friska.
