Welcome New Students of UMN 2017!
August 23, 2017Congratulations on the New Officer of the Faculty of Business & Faculty of Art and Design UMN
August 31, 2017Yenny Wahid, Director of wahid foundation, gave his speech in the inaugural lecture session at the 2017 Open Senate Session held at UMN on Thursday (24/8).
The rise of the issue of radicalism and intolerance that has the potential to trigger the division of the nation lately raises its own concerns. It takes concrete action to re-establish unity and diversity in the diversity that exists in our beloved nation and country, Indonesia. One of them is to regenerate the spirit of Pancasila, Diversity, and love for the homeland in the young generation of Indonesia.
Universities have an important role in instilling these things in prospective successors of the Indonesian nation. Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) as a university that has achieved Accreditation of Institution A is committed to playing an active role in printing graduates who have strong national insights. One of the manifestations of this is through the holding of the Open Senate Session of New Student Admissions in the 2017/2018 school year entitled ‘The Superior and United Young Generation in Kebhinnekaan’ on Thursday (24/8) at UMN.
Yenny Wahid, Director of the Wahid Foundation as well as an Indonesian woman who upholds pluralism and diversity will raise the topic in the Inaugural Lecture session at this event. It is hoped that with the presence of Yenny Wahid, daughter of the 4th President of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid, messages of excellence in diversity can be further strengthened in UMN students.

In his speech, Yenny stated that Pancasila is a very special thing. “Many leaders from outside countries want to learn about Pancasila. Pancasila has become a synthesis, an extraordinary formulation that makes the medium for his nation to freely embrace religion without any worries to be restrained by the state’s rulers,” he said.
Yenny also explained that in the future, there are still many conflict challenges that must be faced together. “Nationalism, primordialism, is often an under attack. We must always find a way to reaffirm the thread of unity through share value in order to survive. Pluralism is something special that is a gift to mankind. Diversity is the nature of man. All we can do to safeguard pluralism is not to allow public spaces to be overrun on hate issues. Here Diversity becomes the main foundation, “explained Yenny.
UMN Rector Ninok Leksono hopes that through this event, UMN new students will not only save awareness to study but also become people who have strong national insight. “UMN students are expected to be people who excel in their fields of study that are closely related to communication science and creative economy that are being developed in Indonesia to shift the natural resource-based economy. But one thing needs to be realized, that not only during study but even more so after graduation, they will live in the nature of Indonesia full of diversity. This is the reason why since entering UMN, students must live this very important life reality, and also increasingly relevant in the midst of the latest socio-political developments,” ninok said.
Umn 2017 open senate session is an annual tradition to welcome UMN new students and is a pucak of the series of New Student Orientation (OMB) 2017 activities. Through this event, more than 1,800 new students were officially confirmed to be members of UMN. This procession was carried out directly by the rector of UMN and other rectorates to new students in the class of 2017/2018. (*)
