Tangerang – The role of Big Data is now increasingly widely recognized by all levels of society; this is in line with the need for the role of data practitioners in the industry. Keep in mind that the role of data practitioners in this very important industry requires a strong provision related to a deep understanding of the world of data and sharp technical skills, such as the use of programming tools or basic knowledge that must be owned.
Quoted from the DQLab Event Webinar, which invited Ridho Aryo Pratama as a Data Scientist, PT Astra Graphia Information Technology on August 7, 2023, explaining the basic concepts of Data Science before deepening his knowledge and also the provision of skills/tools that must be mastered for a career as a data practitioner in the industry.
“The field of Data Science is very broad, and its development is quite rapid, so before understanding the deeper Data Science, Data Analyst, Data Engineer. It is important for us to keep learning because this field (Data Science) continues to grow and develop,” Ridho said
Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that combines science methods, algorithms, and (computer) systems that produce insight or new knowledge from structured data and/or unstructured data. The Data Science field will use several techniques from various disciplines, including mathematics, statistics, computer science, and domain expertise.
“So, friends originally from math majors are still suitable to work in the field of Data Science. Also, statistics, especially if you majored in IT. Let’s say you are an agricultural student; are you still suitable (to work in the data field)? Yes, and there are still opportunities because we can take and manage the data so that later we can provide useful quality/output based on data,” Ridho explained.
Furthermore, Ridho explained why Data Science is quite important to learn, especially for students. One of the reasons most often found in the answer is the opening of career opportunities and the increasing need for Data practitioners in the industry. This is also in line with the increasing number and use of data sets that need to be processed & analyzed by practitioners such as Data Analysts, Data Scientists, or data Engineers.
In order to be able to plunge into a career as a data practitioner, Ridho explained several points of preparation and provision of Data Science knowledge & tools that must be owned.
“Python, being the most common programming language, and available libraries that can help the data analysis process such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow. Then SQL, a programming tool to “talk” with a database system, Mathematics, and Statistics where the basics and concepts need to be learned and implemented into Machine Learning,” said Ridho.
Ridho explained further that the three sciences and tools are sufficient as a career provision to become a data practitioner, but there is a next step that is no less important namely business analysis & processes. Data practitioners need to understand the journey of customer and business needs, even though this understanding is a foundation for conducting analysis more effectively.
In this webinar, Ridho delivered a motivational sentence as well as closing the material in the Onboarding Data Science session: Fundamentals. “You have data, you have insight! Want to be a Data Scientist? Have a passion for learning!” Ridho said.
Learning Data Science in a directed and structured way has a huge impact on the output that friends can get. DQLab provides online Data Science courses in Indonesian that can help with skills and career preparation in the data field from basic to advanced.
