July 24, 2023Tangerang – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) has formed a strategic partnership with the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Tangerang Regency to explore growth opportunities within the local creative economy. This collaboration aims to elevate Tangerang Regency as a recognized hub for creativity, ultimately positioning the area to gain international recognition as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The partnership reflects UMN’s commitment to supporting regional development and building a sustainable, prosperous community.
The first meeting, held on July 18, 2023, in Bappeda’s Sinergi Meeting Room, identified the bamboo creative economy program as the primary focus of this collaboration. Bamboo, a resource widely available in Tangerang Regency, presents vast potential for creative applications in crafts, sustainable products, and eco-friendly industries. By emphasizing bamboo as a defining feature of the local creative economy, UMN and Bappeda hope to establish a unique cultural identity for the region that merges traditional craftsmanship with modern market needs.
Achieving the goal of joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network would bring significant international visibility to Tangerang Regency, attracting both tourism and investment. Beyond global recognition, the program also aims to improve the economic welfare of local residents by creating new opportunities in the creative sector. Leveraging bamboo for economic development would support local artisans, encourage sustainable business practices, and foster a sense of pride and identity within the community.
The initial discussions involved a team of 11 people, including two UMN lecturers with expertise in creative industries and regional development. With a shared vision of sustainable economic growth, UMN and Bappeda are committed to supporting this initiative, which has the potential to transform Tangerang Regency into a beacon of creativity and sustainability. This partnership underscores UMN’s dedication to impactful community engagement and showcases the university’s role in fostering innovative solutions that support both local and global goals.
