December 15, 2023As an academic institution, we are incredibly proud of the strong partnerships we’ve built with NGOs, which have expanded our ability to make a meaningful impact within our community, particularly in tackling SDG-related challenges. Listed below are a few successes stories of how we can do so much more with NGOs.
UMN’s collaboration with various NGOs strengthens our commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in empowering the disability community. In September 2023, we partnered with CIDCO (Creative Business of Diffable Community) to initiate a rebranding and training program for children with disabilities, aimed at enhancing their skills and helping them better prepare for career challenges. This program is designed to build self-confidence and open opportunities for greater engagement in the workforce.

Another successful initiative was the Podcast Tuna Netra, launched in June 2023 in Lebak Bulus in collaboration with Yayasan Mitra Netra. This program provides a platform for visually impaired individuals to express themselves and share their perspectives through audio media, promoting public awareness of inclusivity while nurturing their creative talents. It not only supports skill development but also brings important visibility to the unique voices within the disability community.

This recognition motivates us to continue expanding collaborations with other organizations in supporting the SDGs and developing impactful community initiatives. Read more here.

In addition, UMN also hosted an event in collaboration with the Kehati Foundation and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to raise awareness about the protection of the critically endangered Tapanuli orangutan. The initiative focuses on conservation efforts in the Batang Toru ecosystem of North Sumatra, where the species is found. This event offers UMN students a valuable opportunity to actively engage in biodiversity preservation and support sustainable environmental practices. Read more here.
UMN Eco Student Club conducted a workshop on green living (Doc. UMN)
Collaborated with Biru Voices 2023 for the “Jnana Sanka” pre-event series, UMN focused on addressing climate change (SDG 13) and improving air quality in Indonesia. The collaboration involved a series of activities, including the UDAsmaRA booth, the “Equip Your Voice” campaign for Clean Air Day, a Campus Talk Show on “Green Living: Small Changes, Big Impact,” and a social media campaign “One Voice.” These events aimed to engage students (ECO Friends) in environmental advocacy and promote green living.
