Tangerang – On Monday (19/08), UMN held a closing seminar for the online and offline Humanitarian Project Independent – Independent Learning Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka/MBKM) training. The head of the Higher Education Service Institution (Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi/LLDIKT) III and the Head of the Center for Professional Development and Certification – Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Indonesia (Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika Republik Indonesia/KOMINFO) attended.
The Humanitarian Project Independent MBKM is a form of collaboration between UMN and LLDIKTI region III, Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) Talent Scouting Academy (TSA) KOMINFO, and DQLab in the form of Data Science and Humanitarian Project training in the even semester.
At least 203 students from 41 universities attended this program. The Humanitarian Project MBKM has been carried out successfully and will be closed with a final project seminar delivered by student representatives from various universities participating in this program.
Four groups with the best final projects have been selected to present their projects at this closing, and two of the four chosen groups are students from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara.
“This event is very extraordinary for me. The current technological developments, in the era of digital transformation, the use of data is a key element in various aspects of life including in disaster management efforts and also risk management,” said Prof. Dr. Toni Toharuddin, M.Si. as Head of LLDIKITI region III in his speech.
Toni further said that with this activity, he hopes that students will implement their knowledge and innovations related to disaster mitigation and benefit the entire community in disaster-prone areas.
“As UMN’s academic community, we see a contribution that can be made to help Indonesia, a country with a high intensity of disasters from time to time,” the Dean of UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, said.
In this statement, Niki emphasized the important role of educational institutions in supporting Indonesia, which often faces intense natural disasters. Niki sees the responsibility and contribution that academics can make through research, technology development, and dissemination of information and education to the community. This initiative is expected to help improve disaster preparedness and mitigation in the country.
“There has been a lot of socialization related to disaster mitigation. From the informatics field, we also see a gap for us to contribute by utilizing various existing data, which students can then use to increase public awareness in disaster-prone areas regarding natural disasters that they are likely to face,” Niki concluded.
