TANGERANG – The challenges for public literacy in Indonesia are still quite alarming. Although the National Digital Literacy Index in 2022 increased by 0.05 points from the previous year, there was a decrease of 0.06 points in the digital culture indicator, namely the ability to read, describe, familiarize, examine, and build national insight, the values of Pancasila and Unity in Diversity in daily life and the digitization of culture through the use of technology, information, and communication (ICT).
Collaboration between higher education institutions and industry is inevitably the way to answer these challenges. Likewise, Communication Science higher education and its associations must immediately prepare to become strategic institutions in synergizing to develop the Communication Science curriculum per existing industry needs.
“The workshop that was held became an important experience to accelerate the process of lecturers producing reference books or textbooks that can be utilized not only for academics but also other readers,” said Rini Sudarmanti, Chairperson of the ASPIKOM Regional Office for the Greater Jakarta Area (Jabodetabek).
Located at Multimedia Nusantara University, on Monday, August 28, 2023, ASPIKOM Jabodetabek in the field of Book Publishing invited a familiar figure to the world of writing, Bambang Trimansyah. He is a writer, as well as an editor or trainer who is a member of the Professional Certification Institute (LSP). The synergy between higher education in Communication Science and the association, in this case, ASPIKOM Korwil Jabodetabek, again held a workshop for writing advanced textbooks, which had previously been successfully held at the Language Agency on July 5, 2023.
This event presented several participants from 50 ASPIKOM lecturers and lecturers of Multimedia Nusantara University. From the event, participants gained new insights and directions to apply immediately when writing a book. Tips that have not been obtained before and then challenged to hone their skills by producing quality book output.
“The workshop exceeded the target. From the original expectation of 5 books, it turned out that 13 books were sent. These manuscripts will be published in early January 2024, in collaboration with the Language Agency,” said Dr. Agustinus Rusdianto Berto, S.Sos., M.Si. as Chair of the ASPIKOM Book Publishing Division of the Jabodetabek Regional Office and Chair of UMN’s Master of Communication Studies Program.
Also present as invitees were Dwi Pudyaastuti and R. A. Sunny from the Language Agency, Aklia, Yulianti, and Rosidah from Salemba Publishers, Rini Sudarmanti as Chairperson of ASPIKOM Korwil Jabodetabek and Mr. Amin Aminudin as Secretary of ASPIKOM Korwil Jabodetabek. (CRA/FB)
The event also received remarks from the Head of UMN’s Strategic Communication Study Program, Cendera Rizky Anugrah Bangun, and the Head of the Master of Communication Studies Program, Agustinus Rusdianto Berto.
