August 5, 2024Important! Consider These 5 Factors When Choosing a Campus in Jakarta
August 5, 2024Tangerang – The development of data and technology is increasingly unstoppable. Progress and innovation can be born at any time following the demands and needs of the community for convenience in various sectors of life. In line with this phenomenon, job opportunities in data and technology are also increasingly becoming a charming prima donna for Gen Z, even millennials. Various job positions in data and technology, ranging from Data Analyst, Engineer, Scientist, ML/AI Engineer, and others, are also increasing. We can also find these opportunities easily through various job portals such as LinkedIn, Jobstreet, Kalibr, and others. However, those interested in the position must have specific qualified competencies. Many beginners still do not have the competencies or requirements according to industry needs. So, the industry’s need for superior talent cannot be fulfilled optimally.
In response to this challenge, DQLab is one of the data accelerators that has successfully produced reliable talents with successful careers in the data field in Indonesia. Now, it continues to provide free facilities for beginners who want to learn data through the Free Class program.
On June 12, 2024, DQLab held another Free Class program entitled “From Data to Decision” with mentor Martin Laugiwa Prawira Putra, a Business Intelligence Analyst at eFishery. This program was intended to help beginners interested in a career in data more easily determine a clear and directed learning and career roadmap. On this occasion, Lau shared various knowledge about working in the data field and tips for starting a career.
In the first point, Lau explained how data can run an industry. Data plays a crucial role in an industry. This role has a logical and technical process that must be followed sequentially. The cycle starts with planning and design, which basically can be done by all teams to design project timelines, strategies, and so on so as not to explore wildly.
This will be followed by collecting raw data in various formats and from different sources, which will be cleaned and stored in a data warehouse by a collaboration of data engineers and data scientists. After the data is ready, it is next to analyze it properly.
The analyzed data must then be stored properly so that it will be ready to be used again when needed. Publishing the data is an equally important process. The goal is to obtain more insights from the analyzed data and communicate them with stakeholders and business teams in a company. Finally, the data can be reused for new analysis with necessary improvements.
According to Lau, the industry requires several vital competencies for a data career. For example, strong analytical skills that adapt to the context and needs of the data analysis are required. This ability can also support a solutive mindset to make the resulting data analysis more impactful.
Furthermore, the technical ability to master various tools needed in the field of data and technology is very important for executing various daily jobs, and this ability can be obtained from various sources, such as boot camps at DQLab and others. Lastly, communication skills are a must-have even for all fields of work, as they support analytical and technical skills so that the results of our work can be more powerful.
Lau also reviewed what can be done with data. There are many things we can do with data, such as creating dashboards. For example, when there are scattered data sources, our job is to make the data neat and clean. This process involves data engineers and scientists.
Furthermore, when the data is ready to be used, we can analyze it by involving data analysts to gain valuable insights for decision-making. In this process, it is essential to master the tools of Tableau, PowerBI, Postgres SQL, Metabase, R, Looker Studio, Apache Superset, C++, etc.
Not only that, Lau also described how big the impact of data is in various fields, especially in industry. Data has a big impact on making accurate decisions for the sustainability of a company’s business. Starting from strategy, finance, and so on, more quickly and easily through the dashboard created by the Data Analyst.
“For example, there are companies that don’t know what trends are happening—they will shoot sales or market products without a plan, so they don’t know what to do. In contrast to companies that use data as their weapon, it is clear what they want to do, their conditions, income, and expenses. Well, the impact data is here, which can be used by the C-level to make decisions,” Lau said.
The last point delivered by Lau was about career prospects in the data field. Jobs in data and technology do not only revolve around three leading positions: Data Analyst, Scientist, and Engineer. But, far more than that, there are many other potential positions such as Data Governance, Business Intelligence, Marketing Analyst, Financial Analyst, Data Architect, ML / AI Engineer, etc. In addition, the salary range that can be obtained is also fantastic, starting from Rp8,000,000 – Rp14,000,000 for entry-level positions. However, this also depends on the company. If the company has a high reputation and is mature, the salary earned can also be higher.
Therefore, Lau highly recommends that beginners who want to learn and start a career in data join DQLab’s Bootcamp Live Class program. You can choose many classes according to the preferences of each role you want to explore. The learning curriculum at DQLab has also been comprehensively adapted to industry needs, complete with modules with Live Code Editor features and 24-hour AI Chatbot assistance that can help beginners learn optimally.
