December 23, 2021TANGERANG – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara is ranked 148th in the world in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2021, announced on Friday (14/12/21). In addition, UMN also retained its first title as the Greenest Private Campus in Jabodetabek. This ranking result shows UMN’s commitment and contribution to creating a sustainable environment.
UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an annual publication initiated by the University of Indonesia that ranks universities worldwide based on their commitment and actions towards sustainability. The rankings aim to increase university awareness of sustainability.
There are six assessment categories in the UI GreenMetric ranking, including setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education. Of these six categories, UMN received the highest points and was ranked 48th worldwide in the water treatment category.
“UMN itself recycles all of its water, but not the water that comes in contact with people; tap water, for example. That [water that comes into direct contact with users] we still use water from the Regional Drinking Water Company. But, the water that does not directly contact UMN’s staff and academic community is all recycled,” said Niki Prastomo, Dean of UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, also the consultant for UMN’s UI GreenMetric.

Nevertheless, Niki revealed that UMN must continue improving its commitment to sustainability. He believes that UMN’s achievements in this ranking are only on the surface. According to him, developing a mindset and culture of sustainability at UMN is the most important thing to pay attention to.
For the future, Andrey Andoko, UMN’s Vice Rector II for General Administration and Finance, said that UMN will continue to take the initiative to improve various sustainability programs. As for Andrey, he revealed that the future sustainability acts will focus a lot on student activities.
“…Including research activities in academics about sustainability. One of the things we consider is also the number of vehicles entering the campus; that needs an extreme policy. For example, limiting the number of vehicles entering the campus,” said Andrey.
