February 22, 2018Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) in collaboration with Japan Foundation organized the Asia Student Package Design Competition (ASPAC) Awards 2017. A total of 53 final works from eight countries were exhibited in the Lobby of A UMN Building on Monday (12/02).
This exhibition is the result of an Asian student packaging design competition that was held in 2017. In this exhibition presented unique works of designers with new and fresh ideas that are able to open public insights about new concepts in packaging everyday products. Eight countries participating in the 2017 ASPAC Awards include Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Director General of Japan Foundation, Norihisa Tsukamoto, said he was very happy to be working with UMN. He also said that this cooperation can encourage students, especially from Indonesia, to be more motivated and take the initiative to develop their work further on the work of packaged products.
This event is also one of the events that began the 60th anniversary of Indonesia’s diplomatic relations with Japan. Japan’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia Ryo Nakamura who came at the inauguration of the 2017 ASPAC Awards exhibition also visited the exhibition area.
“I think that Indonesians have a lot of creativity such as Japanese-Indonesian diplomatic relations to 60 high school students from East Java aged 17 years can design this logo, meaning that Indonesians have great potential for creativity because this culture is diversity,” said Ryo Nakamura when met at the inauguration of the 2017 ASPAC Awards exhibition.
This exhibition event is open to the public on Monday-Friday at 08.00-17.00 and on Saturday-Sunday at 08.00-15.00 which takes place from February 12 to 24, 2018. In addition to exhibiting the packaging design work of Asian students, at the 2017 ASPAC Awards was also equipped with various design seminars from several Japanese companies, ADGI and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.
Not only in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, ASPAC 2017 also cooperates with several companies, one of which is the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI). “We are working with ASPAC in preparing seeds to be contested at ASPAC in December,” said Muhammad Imaduddin representative of ADGI.
With the re-holding of this event it is expected that in 2018 more and more ASPAC Indonesia will participate in this competition. The competition is open to all design students.
