UMN Hospitality Study Program lecturer Adestya Ayu Armielia, S.ST., M.Si.Par., CHE, won the 2nd Best Online Learning Design of the Year 2024 award in the Lecturer category at the Online Learning System Award (SPADA Award).
TANGERANG – In the ever-growing digital era, innovation in education is the key to attracting interest and improving students’ understanding. Adestya Ayu Armielia, S.ST., M.Si.Par., CHE, a lecturer in the Hospitality Study Program at Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), has proven herself to be a pioneer in developing innovative online learning designs.
Adestya’s dedication paid off by winning the 2nd Best Online Learning Design of the Year award in the Lecturer category at the Online Learning System Award (SPADA Award) at Graha Diktisaintek, Jakarta, on Friday (13/12/24).
SPADA Awards is an award event held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI) to appreciate innovative efforts in online learning in Indonesia. This award is given to universities, lecturers, and education personnel who have successfully created and implemented a quality and effective online learning system.
SPADA Awards aims to encourage the improvement of the quality of online learning in Indonesia, motivating educational actors to continue to innovate and develop online learning methods that are attractive, interactive, and relevant to the needs of the times.
Adestya, represented by UMN’s BPP E-Learning Manager Riatun, received the 2nd Best Online Learning Design of 2024 award in the Lecturer category at the Online Learning System Award (SPADA Award).
When receiving the award, Adestya, represented by UMN E-Learning BPP Manager Riatun, expressed her joy and gratitude for the achievement. She realized that her success could not be separated from the support and facilities provided by UMN, especially the BPP E-Learning team.
“I feel lucky because UMN has a BPP team and good facilities for digital learning development,” Adestya, who also serves as Secretary of UMN’s Hospitality Study Program, said.
Adestya’s motivation to develop innovative online learning designs is driven by her desire to create content that is relevant to the times and can attract a wider audience. She sees platforms like YouTube as an example of how free learning content can be accessed and utilized effectively.
With the support of technologies such as IoT and AI, Adestya strives to present learning materials in an engaging, fresh and interactive format. “With interesting and interactive digital content, it will be able to increase UMN’s competitiveness, especially the Hospitality Study Program, to compete in the digital space,” explained Adestya, who teaches in UMN’s Hospitality Study Program in the classes Pastry Bakery Production, Food Styling, Service Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Hospitality E-Commerce.
Adestya revealed that she and her team implemented the assessors’ suggestions and input, ensuring all content requirements were met. Various innovative and interactive learning methods were tried, including animation, interactive multimedia, 360 videos, video tutorials, and podcasts.
Hybrid learning has been a part of UMN’s Hospitality Study Program for seven years, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. However, it was only implemented last semester for online learning in the Food Styling course taught by Adestya.

Adestya is not complacent with this achievement. She is determined to continue improving her online learning design in line with technological developments. She will follow the advice of the faculty’s digital content coordinator to conduct digital development at least two meetings each semester.
“It all depends on the readiness of the team and supporting facilities from BPP E-Learning UMN. With the development of technology, I believe the design of online learning will always change,” she said.
Furthermore, Adestya has high hopes for developing online learning in Indonesia. She emphasized the importance of equal internet access throughout Indonesia. According to her, even the best online learning design will be useless if people in remote areas cannot access it.
“The best online learning design, if it is difficult to access by friends in remote areas, will not be useful. My biggest hope is the provision of infrastructure and distribution of technological devices in remote areas of Indonesia and that they are really utilized by friends who want to learn,” she concluded.
