SERANG – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) won the 2nd best Banten SDGs Award 2024 in the Higher Education/Student Category for its integrated waste management development design program.
The award is part of a series of celebrations for Banten Province’s 24th anniversary. It is given to government and non-government agencies that carry out good practices to encourage the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target in 2030. Banten Acting Governor Al Muktabar gave the award directly at the Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University Auditorium Building, Serang Regency, on Tuesday (12/11).
UMN representatives who attended were the Head of the Community Service Bureau (Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat/PKM) Lembaga Penelitian Pengabdian Masyarakat (LPPM) UMN Andy Firmansyah, S.I.Kom., M.M and Physics Engineering Study Program Lecturer Ir. Arko Djajadi, M.Sc., Ph.D.
UMN received an award for the Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) Design and Construction to Operations activity in Tangerang Regency. This program results from a Community Service grant funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi/Kemendikbudristek) in 2022.

UMN’s waste management activities also support the achievement of the 11th SDG’s point on sustainable cities and settlements. Effective waste management can help reduce environmental impacts and improve the quality of life of people in the region.
This activity also encourages waste reduction, reuse, and recycling to create a circular economy. This is following the 12th SDG’s point on responsible consumption and production.
Finally, UMN also promotes the target of SDG 13, which is to address climate change. Waste management helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions from waste accumulation, such as methane from landfills.
For information, Dr. Endang Supriadi from Bappeda Banten, Prof. Meutia (Chairperson of LPPM Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University), and senior journalist Ahmad Arby Syahrotani judged the Banten SDGs Award 2024 in the Higher Education/Student Category from August 29 to September 17, 2024.
Head of the Bureau of PKM LPPM UMN Andy Firmansyah hopes that UMN will form an SDGs Center in the future to develop programs that support the achievement of SDGs points in various areas, ranging from research centers to innovation to strategy development.
“Currently, community service and research programs carried out by the Lecturer and Student Teams have been linked to the SDGs and are sustainable so that the activities carried out not only have scientific outputs, but also have a positive impact so that they can be felt by the community,” Andy said when contacted, Monday (11/25).
