July 24, 2023Tangerang – UMN’s Green Area, covering nearly 70,000 square meters, is a vibrant showcase of diverse plant life, featuring resilient trees that thrive in low-water conditions. Majestic species like the American Mahogany, African Tulip, Slash Pine, Peruvian Apple Cactus, Indian-Almond, Teak, Monkey Pod, Rainbow Eucalyptus, Gebang Palm, and Sheoaks stand tall, providing natural shade and character. You’ll also find the striking foliage of Song of India and Snake Plant, known for their durability and minimal water needs.
A standout feature of this landscape is the presence of several native species. Trees such as Rainbow Eucalyptus, Indian-Almond, Teak, Sheoaks, and Gebang Palm are indigenous to Indonesia, blending sustainability with local heritage. By incorporating native species, UMN not only conserves water but also supports biodiversity and pays tribute to Indonesia’s rich natural landscape.
To complement these resilient varieties, UMN’s green space also includes plants that enjoy more moisture, bringing bursts of color and unique textures. You’ll find Mexican Petunia, Kelat Oil, Dumbcane, various Orchids, the Traveler’s Palm, and the Golden Trumpet scattered throughout. While these plants require more water, they’re maintained with a resource-conscious approach, adding an extra layer of vibrancy to the landscape.
UMN’s irrigation system is designed with sustainability at its core. A network of water-saving sprinklers ensures efficient watering across the Green Area, while 100% of the water used comes from treated and recycled water. By combining drought-tolerant natives with selective water-loving species and relying entirely on recycled water, UMN’s Green Area stands as a beautiful, sustainable space that harmonizes with the environment and enriches the campus experience for all who visit.
