August 22, 2024UMN VCD students won the Daesang Eat and Travel Film competition in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Tangerang – On Saturday (10/08), three UMN students from the VCD and Distance Learning – Communication Science Study Programs won the Daesang Eat and Travel Film Festival competition in three categories. The three categories won were Best Picture, Grand Prix, and Best Actress.
The Daesang Eat and Travel Film Festival competition has been held since 2020. This year is the fourth year, and the theme is “Global Smartphone Film Festival for College Students,” and is held in Da Nang, Vietnam. This program is open to all students from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Korea. This program is held so that students can develop talents and innovate from their creativity in the world of film and explore new places, so that students, in addition to getting new experiences, can hone soft skills and hard skills.
The 4th Daesang Eat and Travel Film Festival lasts four months, from registration in May 2024 to the main field trip event in July and August 2024.
To participate in the Daesang E.T.F.F Competition, there will be a selection process: making a short video about “One Hashtag That Represents My Personality,” an online application, and an interview. Students selected from the selection process will attend the 4th Daesang Kick-Off orientation with their teams from three countries.
One of the winners of this competition, Dara Ayu Nadira Setyananda from the VCD study program, made a five-minute short film project entitled “Eclipse.” This movie tells the story of an apprentice who wants to achieve his goal of becoming a famous chef. The biggest challenge to achieving this goal is to make the world’s best dish. It was this movie project that brought Dara the Best Picture win.
“I am very happy and surprised because I did not expect to get Best Picture. From this activity, I learned a lot of new and more creative things, especially how to collaborate and work as a team with people from different backgrounds, skills, and views. I feel like all my hard work has paid off,” Dara said.
Dara also does not regret trying to join this program because she feels that this program supports students to develop their talents, innovate, and collaborate on an international scale.
“Of course, I feel proud of the achievements made by the UMN VCD students. From the beginning, I felt that these students had shown great enthusiasm and desire, so I was happy when their enthusiasm paid off. I think the awards obtained show that UMN’s VCD students have the potential to be creative in the field of film both nationally and internationally,” said Ester Anggun Kusumaningtyas, S.Ds., M.Ds., as UMN’s VCD Lecturer.
Ester hopes this victory will inspire other students to participate in international competitions or events. The more students are involved in activities like this, the more achievements will appear.
Other students who won this competition were Laurentia Keyla Nathania, VCD Study Program class of 2023, who won the Grand Prix, and Nadinne Freely Tejo, VCD Study Program class of 2023, who won Best Actress.
