January 17, 2024TANGERANG – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara was ranked 148th out of 1,183 universities worldwide in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023 on Tuesday (5/12/23). This ranking increased from 2022 to 148th out of 1,050 global universities.
UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an annual publication initiated by Universitas Indonesia that ranks universities worldwide based on their commitment and actions towards sustainability. The rankings aim to increase university awareness of sustainability.
UMN joined UI GreenMetric in 2016. However, UMN has been promoting the concept of a green and energy-efficient campus since its establishment in 2006. UMN has built designs that optimize natural lighting, planting trees around buildings, and the application of water recycling for watering plants and flushing toilets. In fact, the Dean of UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., revealed that UMN has developed a rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS) system in UMN Building B, which is currently ready to operate.

There are six assessment categories in the UI GreenMetric ranking, including setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education. In 2023, UMN achieved the highest percentage of achievement in UI GreenMetric for the education category at 93.06%.
UMN’s commitment to realizing a green campus does not only focus on its buildings and environment. UMN also integrates various academic activities and the concept of sustainability as the foundation for realizing sustainability. Niki also said that the educational aspect is one of UMN’s top concerns in its commitment to preserve the environment by 2023.
“Strengthening the learning process, research, community service, student activities, cultural activities, international collaboration, and also the development of start-ups which are all related to the concept of sustainability are indeed UMN’s top targets in 2023,” Niki explained.
