A blood donor volunteer program is a program that aims to increase public awareness of the importance of becoming a blood donor and invites people to participate in donating their blood for the benefit of blood transfusions for those in need. This program is often carried out by various agencies and organizations, both government and private, such as the Indonesian Red Cross, the World Health Organization (WHO), private companies, and so on.
PMI is one institution that often holds Volunteer Blood Donor programs in Indonesia. As a humanitarian organization engaged in the health sector, PMI is committed to providing sufficient blood stocks for the people of Indonesia. PMI manages various blood transfusions services, such as Blood Banks, Blood Transfusion Units, and Mobile Blood Transfusion Units that can move to various places to collect blood from donors.
In addition to PMI, there are also several private institutions engaged in the health sector that also hold Volunteer Blood Donor programs, such as hospitals and clinics. Usually, blood donation programs are held on a regular and scheduled basis. Donors can come to a predetermined location for a health check before donating blood. The blood donation process itself only takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
To become a blood donor, one must fulfil several requirements, such as having sufficient body weight, blood pressure within normal limits, not being sick, not being pregnant or breastfeeding, and not having a history of certain diseases. Each institution with a Volunteer Blood Donor program has different requirements, but the requirements to become a blood donor are generally the same.
