5 National Scholarships to Lighten Your Study
October 18, 2022Getting acquainted with Computer Engineering
October 18, 2022TANGERANG – Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) welcomed Teesside University at the UMN campus on Thursday (29/09/2022). Two activities were conducted during the visit; a guest lecture by Dr Gordon Marshall and a rectorate discussion between UMN and Teeside University. Teesside University is a public university in Middlesbrough, Tees Valley, England.
The visit started with a Rectorate Discussion attended by UMN and Teeside University representatives. The two parties discussed potential collaborations and activities that can be done in the near future.
“At the moment we are still very new to Indonesia. I myself have been here several years and even stayed here for six months to understand the market better. Looking at Indonesia, it is really hotspot to merger talents and work together with universities to develop summer programs, research, etc,” June Chai, the Regional Director of Teesside University for South East Asia, said.
Niki Prastomo, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, opened the discussion on possible collaborations between UMN and Teeside University. He mentioned an idea for a partnership on the Master’s Program for Undergraduates of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics.
“Currently, in our faculty, we only have an undergraduate program, so we are looking forward if we can collaborate where our students can continue their master’s degree at Teeside University like a fast-track program,” Niki proposed. With the fast-track program, UMN students can complete their bachelor’s degree in approximately three years (from the standard four years) and immediately continue their master’s degree at Teeside University.
Regarding research, Niki also added that UMN and Teeside University have a similarity where both parties are aiming to develop Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, big data and computing.
Other collaborations were also mentioned, like conducting student exchanges and guest lectures. UMN and Teeside University are known to be active in conducting student exchanges, especially UMN with the Independent Campus Independent Learning program and the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards.

Responding to UMN’s proposals, June and Gordon shared that most things are possible, but the details of the collaborations need to be further discussed. Although, research collaborations between UMN and Teeside University can easily be conducted if a near collaboration wants to be done. More discussions need to be done to deepen each idea further.
The Rectorate Discussion was followed by a guest lecture led by Dr Gordon Marshall, the Associate Dean (International) of the School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies at Teesside University. He presented materials for UMN students in the faculties of Film & Animation, and Information Technology.
Gordon shared insights on Teesside University’s popular courses in Animation and partnerships with studios in the animation, gaming and even film industries. He also explored the world of immersive technologies, sparking a discussion between him and the participants.
