TANGERANG – Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) Library, in collaboration with Gramedia #SahabatTanpaBatas, held a talk show with the theme “How to Improve Your Public Speaking to be a Voice Over, Host, & Presenter.” This event was held in a hybrid manner (offline and online) on Thursday (25/8/2022) at the Lecture Hall, Building C, UMN campus, and via YouTube.
This event discusses how to hone good public speaking skills to support the profession as a Voice Over talent, Host, and Presenter. Dewi Warhamni, M.I.Kom., the UMN Public Speaking and Presentation Skill lecturer and Nathalie Indry, a Voice Over (VO) Talent and Professional Host, were invited to talk on the topic.
Dewi conveyed the topic of Public Speaking, “Speaking is an Art,” and discussed several points of discussion: the importance of speaking effectively, the causes of fear of speaking and getting rid of fear, and how changing speeches can change lives.
“The benefits of studying public speaking can make us understand another person because it will improve the conversation. So we must first know who we are talking to communicate effectively,” she said.
Indry delivered material on how to train yourself to have the ability to speak in public. In addition, Indry also shared his experience as a VO Talent.
“We have to practice speaking often, so we don’t say the wrong thing and don’t feel shy during presentations. It can be done by practicing in front of the mirror and with friends and having them point out where we lack. This can help us further upgrade ourselves on where we lack,” he continued.
Indry said voice-overs have their own style, depending on the program or video. And a voice-over talent must follow directions from the producer and adjust to the time the video will be shown.
Indri also invited participants to practice speaking according to the script provided with intonations according to different topics and ended with a discussion session with the speakers.
