Important Tips to Consider when Choosing Student Housing
September 27, 2022Buckle Up! UMN Lecturers Make Unique Innovations for Shopping for Books
September 27, 2022TANGERANG – The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics UMN, Niki Prastomo, was trusted by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture to manage the Kedaireka 2022 Matching Fund grant. This fund will be used to solve various agricultural problems in Indonesia.
Niki compiled the design in a proposal entitled “The Design of an IoT Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) System for the Development of Data Collection on Smart Agricultural Land Conditions.” Here, he helps PT Moto Doro Teknologi as a partner who faces challenges related to the detection system of agricultural land conditions.
He said that the existence of Internet of Things (IoT)-based sensors was the answer to that problem. However, the system is quite difficult to implement in agricultural areas.
“UMN, through the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, has developed a hybrid IoT communication system, which shows a proof of concept system, for the purpose of sending data on the condition of the solar home system with limited internet connection conditions,” explained Niki, who is also a lecturer at the Physics Engineering Study Program at UMN.
The LPWAN IoT system designed by Niki allows minimal internet connection to detect the condition of agricultural land. According to him, this can increase crop productivity and cost efficiency.
In the future, the technology design for the data collection on the condition of agricultural land will be implemented until it is further evaluated. The development of the LPWAN IoT system will also involve UMN students.
The Kedaireka Matching Fund is a funding program from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia to support collaboration and strategic synergy between higher education institutions and the industry.
