July 24, 2017The Indonesian government’s steps in improving the wheels of the national economy today need to be supported by the availability of capable human resources (HR) and innovation in various areas of life. According to data from the LIPI Economic Research Center, human resource development in Indonesia has not been too encouraging. Indonesia’s labor productivity is only 18% of the work productivity in Singapore. This is one of them is due to the gap in ability in HUMAN RESOURCES in innovation and utilization of technology.
In line with this, the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Prof. Moh. Nasir revealed that the development of research and innovation is the key to building the competitiveness of the nation, especially in the realm of universities. In addition, education is also expected to not only emphasize the theoretical aspects but also provide a practical side.
Multimedia Nusantara University as a university that has a vision of producing graduates with international insight and competent in their fields again contributed the superior seeds of Indonesian human resources that are ready to compete in the professional world through graduation XI themed “Innovation as a Nation’s Competitiveness” held at the Indonesia Convention Hall (ICE), on Saturday (8/7). At this graduation, the graduates managed to produce a variety of achievements and innovations ranging from business to information-based technology.
One of them is Vincentius Kuriawan, a graduate of UMN Informatics Engineering alumni. In his thesis, he was able to create innovation in the form of employee absenteeism by using face recognition that was integrated also with GPS technology through mobile applications. In addition, there are also the best graduates from UMN Management study program, Citra Giofany who during college has implemented various leadership and business innovations in organizational activities. For his achievements, Citra now serves as Product Manager of PC Accessories Microsoft Indonesia.
Ninok Leksono, Rector of UMN claimed to be proud of the achievements achieved by UMN students. “Now many people say, what happens is disruption or chaos. Universities including UMN must be observant to listen to developments. One thing that is believed is that in every challenge there is also an opportunity. Innovations such as e-learning include those to be developed at UMN. New areas of interest such as cybersecurity, virtual reality or artificial intelligence will also receive more attention. One thing that is no less important, for students who have business interests, the existence of Skystar Ventures business incubator adds value to UMN in providing concrete business training provisions, approaching real conditions in the real world, “said Ninok.
Gunawan Susanto took up a prestigious position at IBM at the age of 35. During his leadership, IBM Indonesia carried out innovation and transformation to continue to grow in the midst of increasing competition. It is expected that through this public lecture, graduates can be motivated to always innovate in the world of work later. (*)
